Reflection assignment

In my group, we communicated and prepared well for the project. We discussed the initial steps, decided on our team ‘leader’ to handle document uploads, and agreed on our communication methods. Since two of my peers and I focused on topics related to recycling, while another focused on fast fashion, organizing the introduction was straightforward. Our introduction slide primarily reflects our topics. Since recycling is related to fast fashion, we chose a background image of a person looking through clothes to visually tie them together. The image helps viewers recognize that our topic will focus on fast fashion. My input was looking for the background video and talking to my peers about the font and animation on the words. Our group’s call-to-action slide featured two images of garbage from NYC streets on both the top left and top right corner, with an image of recycling in between. This layout emphasizes sustainability by contrasting waste with recycling. It addresses all sustainability topics because you can see the shirt dedicated to fast fashion with the recycling symbol in the center, dedicated to recycling of course. Since our topic was very straightforward, I didn’t learn anything new other than what I already had read myself. I liked more our introduction slide, just because although it was very simple I felt like it was captivating and simple yet neat. What I liked most about my slide was the image I used with all the recycling bins. It educates viewers that you don’t just have to recycle paper, metal, and

plastic—there’s much more that can be recycled. The most challenging aspect of informing the general public in a short video compared to a paper was that I had to say a lot with fewer words. We had to keep it short yet simple and clear and that was very challenging for me because I tend to over-explain sometimes. I do think that public service announcement is the best way to promote awareness of sustainability because as technologies progress, people today read less and see more. So if we want to target an audience that is young or that audience that isn’t a fan of reading public service is the fastest and easiest way to target them. In a group project, I appreciate that more than one person is contributing, as two minds can work faster and more effectively than one. However, I often prefer working alone. I don’t usually have issues agreeing on topics, but I often have different tastes when it comes to design and animation. This means I have to choose options that both my group members and I like, rather than just what I would personally prefer. Although I think we did well as a group, I would suggest using more animations that look cleaner and reflect the effort we put in as a team.
